Right file, right place,

HNF utilises data life-cycle mana-
gement that prioritizes files that are
accessed most often. Specifically,
files that are accessed most are
stored in the main server, while less
often accessed files are held either in
the cache server and/or tape library.
This structure takes advantage of the
fast data access offered by HDDs and
the low cost and high reliability of
tape storage.

The Hybrid Network Fileserver (HNF) is an all-new, intelli-
gent approach to data storage and access from Sony.
By monitoring the access levels for data items, HNF is
able to assign files to the most appropriate of the three
storage locations. In this way, a highly effective balance
is maintained between the ready access of hard disc
storage and the higher capacities /affordability offered by
tape. And with redundancy in HNF managed according to
the importance of data, storage efficiency is optimised.
Furthermore, by using high capacity AIT-3 / AIT-4 format
tape drives, HNF can be cost effectively scaled to meet
the most demanding data storage requirements.
The HNF is designed with industry standards in mind,
and can be configured with an application server to allow
seamless remote access to data – users can access files
as if they were located on their own PC.
For healthcare, security, CAD data, digital photography
email archives and other demanding business applica-
tions, HNF offers an all-together smarter way to manage
your critical data.
