AUDIO SPECIFICATIONS
Audio Channels:
CAB 8i: Eight input channels, line-level
or microphone level with switchable
48-volt phantom power.
CAB 8o: Eight output channels, line-
level with individual channel jumpers for
a maximum output of +6, +12, +18, or
+24 dBu (factory default is +12 dBu for
unity I/O gain).
Note: See Digital specifications, Audio
Channels per CAB 8i/8o for number of
channels limitations.
Frequency Response:
20 Hz Ð 20 kHz, +0/-0.5 dB, with a
+4 dBu input signal, unity gain in and out.*
Total Harmonic Distortion:
0.01% @ 1 kHz, 0.02% @ 20 kHz, with
a +4 dBu input signal, unity gain in and
out*
Note: Measurements made using a 10
Hz to 30 kHz input filter on Audio
Precision System One for testing.
Dynamic Range:
Mic Level:
Ð123 dBu equivalent input noise with a
150 Ohm, Ð48 dBu input signal, no input
pad, analog input gain at 60 dB, digital
gain at 0 dB, analog output set for
+12 dBu maximum (factory pre-set
jumper for unity gain through-put)
Note: This is equivalent to 78 dBA,
75 dB unweighted.
Line level:
95 dBA, 93 dB unweighted, with a
+12 dBu input signal, unity gain in and out*
Input CMRR (CAB 8i):
Better Than 65 dB at Any Gain
Setting:
73 dB with +12 dBu input and unity gain
in and out*, 69 dB with a +4 dBu input
signal and unity gain in and out*, 68 dB
with a Ð56 dBu input signal, no input
pad, analog input gain at 60 dB, digital
gain at 0 dB, analog output set for
+12 dBu maximum (factory pre-set
jumper for unity gain through-put).
Maximum Input Level (CAB 8i):
+29 dBu, with a 20 dB pad in and the
analog input gain at 0 dB, +38 dBu with
a 20 dB pad in and the analog input gain
at Ð9 dB.
Note: The analog input gain control is
not buffered with an electronically
balanced amplifier and maintains a
balanced input circuit with
1-dB-per-step precision and specified
CMRR.
Maximum Output Level (CAB 8o):
+24 dBu @ 600 ohms
CAB 8i Gain:
Software controlled analog gain from
Ð9d B to +60 dB, adjustable in 1 dB
increments, with a software selectable
analog Mic/Line input switch. (Line level
selection inserts a 20 dB input pad.)
CAB 8o Gain:
Software controlled analog output gain
from Ð95.5 dB to +31.5 dB, adjustable
in 0.5 dB increments with internal analog
output jumpers for maximum output
levels of +6, +12, +18, or +24 dBu
Note: It is not recommended to use this
as a microphone level output as noise
will be a problem at extremely low
output levels.
Input Impedance (CAB 8i):
22.2 k ohms for Line input selection and
2.2 k ohms for Mic input selection
Output Impedance (CAB 8o):
100 Ohms, designed to drive a minimum
load of 600 Ohms
Analog LED Metering:
Eight peak-reading headroom meters,
calibrated in dBu, monitor the analog
level present at the input to the A/D
converters for the CAB 8i, and at the
output of the D/A converters for the CAB
8o, with the top-most red LED indicating
A/D or D/A clipping.
Note: The top-most red LED should
never illuminate during normal operation.
Note 1: Audio specifications are measured
from the input into the CAB 8i and the
output out of the CAB 8o where relevant.
Note 2: All specifications are typical.
*Indicates no input pad, analog input gain
at 0 dB, digital gain at 0 dB, analog output
set for +12 dBu maximum (factory pre-set
jumper for unity gain through-put).
