2.12  LAN Troubleshooting 
To check if the computer’s LAN is defective or malfunctioning, follow the troubleshooting 
procedures below as instructed. 
Procedure 1:   Diagnostic Test Program Execution Check 
Procedure 2:   Connector Check and Replacement Check 
Procedure 1 
Diagnostic Test Program Execution Check 
To check the LAN function, execute the LAN test program subtest 03 (LAN loop-back test).  
See Chapter 3 for information on how to perform the test. 
If any error is detected by the test, go to Procedure 2. 
Procedure 2 
Connector Check and Replacement Check 
The LAN function is installed on the system board. The modem jack is connected to the 
system board by the cable. If the LAN malfunctions, the connection between the modem and 
the system board is bad or the system board might be faulty. 
Disassemble the computer following the steps described in Chapter 4 and perform the 
following checks: 
Check 1 
Check if the LAN jack cable is connected firmly to the connector PJ4100 of the 
system board.

If the LAN jack is loose or disconnected, connect it firmly and return to Procedure 1. 
If there is still an error, perform Check 2. 
Check 2 
The modem jack may be defective. Replace the modem  jack with a new one. If 
there is still an error, perform Check 3. 
Check 3 
The system board may be faulty. Replace the System board following the steps 
described in Chapter 4.
