Rubber Products’ Storage/Shelf Life

From time to time we have received inquiries regarding the storage and shelf life of
rubber products and components.  These items when properly stored have a lengthy
shelf and service life.  Our rubber products and components, if properly stored, will have
a shelf life of five years or more.

The following is a general guide for proper storage:

1.  Store rubber products and components in an area that is as cool as possible.
Generally, the temperature should not exceed 100
F.

2.  The storage area should be away from operating electrical equipment such
as motors and generators.

3.  Where possible, items should be stored in air tight and light tight containers.
A twist top plastic bag in a closed cardboard box fulfills these requirements.

4.  Unprotected rubber products and components that are placed in open bins or
shelves should not be stored for more than a few months.

5.  Inventory should be rotated to assure that the oldest materials are sold first.
