Using This Service Update Guide
Thank you for using the TiVo
®
 service! This Service Update Guide 
describes features and settings that may not have been available 
when you first purchased your TiVo
®
 Digital Video Recorder and 
which are not documented in your original User’s Guide
Some TiVo DVRs are capable of receiving different levels of TiVo 
service (either TiVo Basic or TiVo Plus service). This guide 
documents features of the TiVo Plus service.
What’s New
• Music, Photos, & More. We’ve enhanced your TiVo DVR’s 
home networking capabilities with the ability to access Home 
Network Applications from your DVR.
• TiVoToGo
TM
 Transfers.
 Use the TiVo Desktop application to 
transfer programs from your DVR to any computer connected to 
your home network.
• Simplified Menus. We’ve made it easier to navigate through  
your DVR’s settings, especially Guided Setup, Channel 
Lineups, and Programming Your Remote Control.
• Take a Tour! The best way to learn what’s new in the latest TiVo 
service update is to take the Tours in Chapter 1of this guide.
Basic Terms
When we talk about the TiVo service, here are some terms you 
should know:
Live TV.
 If you’re watching a program as it’s being broadcast, 
you’re watching live TV. With the TiVo service, you can pause 
live TV for up to 30 minutes. When you resume watching, 
you’re “behind” live TV.
Program screen.
 When you select a program (from the Now 
Playing List or a list of upcoming programs), you’ll see a screen 
with information about the program and actions you can take. 
Home Network Applications 
and Home Media Features. If your 
DVR is connected to a home network with broadband Internet 
access, you’ll enjoy a wide variety of additional features. See 
Tour Five on page 10 for more.
