Unscrew oil fill cap from oil filler tube and wipe dipstick clean. See Figure 8.73. Screw oil fill cap back into oil filler tube. Tighten securely.74. Using an approved red GASOLINE container, add fuel slowly, being careful to avoid spilling. DO NOT overfill fuel tank. Leave space in the tank to allow fuel to expand without overflowing.85. Replace anti-splash fuel fill cap securely and wipe up spilled fuel before starting engine. If fuel is spilled DO NOT start engine. Move machine away from area of spillage. When starting a cold engine, push primer bulb firmly with your thumb 3 times, allowing primer bulb to return completely to original position between pushes. See Figure 16.95. Push starter button or turn ignition switch key (see equipment manufacturer’s instructions) to start engine.96. When engine starts, release starter button or ignition switch key.97. Turn cover counterclockwise and remove from base.173. Remove optional foam filter (if present) from paper filter.174. Remove paper/metal filter from base.175. Clean inside of base and cover thoroughly.176. Install new paper/metal element into base.177. Install optional foam filter onto paper filter.178. Turn cover clockwise and attach to base.179. Install cover screws and tighten securely.171. Turn cover to left (counterclockwise) and remove it and paper filter from flange. See Figure 36.172. Discard filter.173. Clean cover and flange thoroughly.174. Install new paper filter into cover.175. Position cover and filter against flange with tab on cover inserted into lower left corner of slot in flange.176. Disconnect spark plug wire and keep it away from spark plug. "G. Avoid Accidental Starts" instructions on page 2. See Figures 37 and 38 on next page.192. Remove spark plug.193. Squirt 1oz. (30ml) of clean engine oil into spark plug hole.194. Cover spark plug hole with rag to prevent fuel from spraying from spark plug hole when starter rope is pulled.195. Grasp starter cord handle and pull out slowly using a full arm stroke. Repeat once. (This will distribute oil throughout the cylinder to prevent corrosion during storage.) Proceed to Step 8.196. Push starter button or turn ignition switch key (see equipment manufacturer’s instructions) to cycle the engine for one to two seconds.197. Turn ignition switch key to “OFF” position. Repeat Step 6. and Step 7. (This will distribute oil throughout the cylinder to prevent corrosion during storage.)198. Remove rag covering spark plug hole and install spark plug.199.
