Replacing the processor
Your system board currently supports the Intel Celeron and Pentium III
(FC-PGA 370) processors. See the Gateway Web site at www.gateway.com for

When replacing a processor, order a processor upgrade kit. The kit includes
the processor and a heat sink..

To replace the processor:

Turn off the computer, disconnect the power cord, and disconnect the
modem cord, if your computer has a modem.

Open the case by following the instructions on page 19, observing the
static electricity precautions on page 17.

Remove the heat sink:

Disconnect the fan cable from the fan connector on the system
board. (See “System board” on page 7 for the location of the fan
connector.)

The heat sink is attached to the processor socket by a metal clip.
Unhook the clip from the tab on the processor socket by pressing
down on the clip and then pulling out on the clip.

It is critical that a heat sink be installed on the processor
to provide sufficient cooling.
