6.7.4.1  How to Determine the Current SMS Firmware Version
The firmware version is displayed on the initial start-up screen on a graphical
display and at the top of each System Management Services (SMS) menu on
an ASCII Terminal display. It can also be found on the configuration display
under the SMS menus.
To access the SMS menus, power-on the system if it is off, or shutdown and
re-start the system if it is on. On a graphical display, the firmware version is
displayed in the lower right corner of the initial display. Press the F1 key while
the start-up icons are displayed to stop at the SMS menus.
On an ASCII Terminal display, press the 1 key at the initial display when the
ASCII icons are displayed at the bottom of the screen. Note the firmware
version at the top of the menus.
Select Configuration from the initial SMS menu to see the system’s
configuration. The firmware version is near the bottom of this list.
6.7.4.2  How to Obtain the SMS Firmware Update
In order to create a firmware diskette with the latest level of SMS firmware

There are two types of archives currently being distributed: one for AIX and

themselves when run.
To unpack the AIX archive, filename.bin, execute the following commands:
chmod +x filename.bin
./filename.bin
To unpack the DOS-compatible archive, filename.exe, execute the archive:

6.7.4.3  How to Create the SMS Firmware Diskette
The method of creating the firmware update diskette will vary depending on
the operating system being used and the distribution archive. In all cases,
1.44 MB DOS-formatted diskettes should be used. For AIX users, DD images
should be provided. To create a firmware update diskette, insert a blank
