Appendix A.  RS/6000 43P 7043 Model 140
The RS/6000 43P 7043 Model 140 is the volume leader of the RS/6000
product line. This appendix collects a general outline of this entry-level
system to help introduce it to those not familiar with RS/6000 servers.
A.1  RS/6000 43P 7043 Model 140 Key Attributes
The RS/6000 43P 7043 Model 140 is a desktop system that provides
outstanding performance for a graphics workstation or entry-level workgroup
server. A wide range of options, including choice of processor speed, storage
devices, and communications features enables you to configure a system
suited to your business environment.
With its graphics capability, the Model 140 is an excellent workstation solution
for demanding 2D or high-function 3D applications. The Model 140 allows
business to be securely conducted on the Internet with an affordable, yet
powerful, entry e-business server, together with the appropriate security
software. It offers the opportunity to start simply, and can easily grow with the
business through processor upgrades or through the creation of clusters of
e-business servers.
Outstanding expansion capabilities provide confidence that an investment in
a Model 140 system can keep pace with the ever-growing needs of
businesses. Memory can be expanded from the base 64 MB to 768 MB. the
Model 140 can handle tough 3D solid modeling, wireframe, and drafting
applications. The 2.1 GB of a standard SCSI-2 Fast/Wide internal disk
capacity can be increased up to 27.3 GB to satisfy the storage requirements
of many entry-level server applications.
To help increase your system performance and value, the PowerPC 604e 332
MHz microprocessor is available on new orders for RS/6000 7043 Model 140.
Upgrading from the base 200 MHz microprocessor to the 233 MHz or 332
MHz option is accomplished by removing the existing processor and plugging
in a new one.
The Model 140 supports the MVP Power Multi-monitor adapter that allows
attachment of two monitors to view multiple data sets simultaneously. This is
especially beneficial for applications such as security trading, financial
analysis, and software engineering. The unique design of this adapter lets a
single mouse move seamlessly between the two monitors for easy operation.
