10.3.3.A What Is “Opening a Session”?
When you select a device attached to an Serial Control Card, it is called “opening a session.” The selected
channel’s video appears on your monitor and the channel name is displayed in the lower right-hand corner. If
you open a second channel, that channel becomes the currently active channel, and the first channel becomes
inactive (but remains open). The new channel’s name replaces the first channel’s name in the right-hand
corner, and the first channel’s name is instead displayed in one of the three remaining blocks at the bottom of
the menu. See Figure 10-2.
Figure 10-2. Session information displayed.
Every time you open a new session (new channel), its name will appear in the right corner and the remaining
open sessions will be listed in the scrollable text blocks in the left-hand corner. You may have up to eight
sessions open at a time. To cycle through your open sessions, press Alt-Tab.
10.3.3.B How to Open a Session
There are two ways to open a session. The first way is to bring up your Serial Channel-List Menu by pressing Alt-
M, select the channel from the menu, and press Enter. The second way is to use the Open-Session Menu. To do
so, channel-switch to the port that contains your Management Card. Press Alt-O to bring up the Open-Session
Menu. Type in the address of the channel you wish to open a session for, and press Enter. To leave the menu
without opening a session, press Escape.
