Using Windows ME and Instant Internet

has confirmed an issue with Windows ME and 16-bit Winsock
applications. If you are running Windows ME and experience failures for Instant
Internet utilities, you have two options:

Download the appropriate Microsoft patch from:
and follow the instructions to apply the
patch to Windows ME.

Try removing Dial-Up Networking to see if that solves the problem:

Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel.

Click Add/Remove Programs.

From the Windows Setup tab, double click to select Communications.

In the Communications dialog box, uncheck Dial-Up Networking.

Click OK.
