When the Data Type is Serial, one EXTender 3000 takes data received on the COM port and multiplexes
with Digital phone voice and signaling over the first B channel connection to the other EXTender.

To use the serial data mode, the COM ports on the EXTender and the PC must be connected and configured
as described above in Connecting the COM Port section. Additionally, the COM port settings at both the

Configuring For Windows NT/2000 or Windows 9x Dial-Up Networking
To use the Extender with Windows 9x dial-up networking or when the unit is connected to a Windows NT
server, you must connect the PC and the EXTender Module as described in “Connecting the COM port” sec-
tion. You must also ensure that the Module’s COM port is properly configured for Dial-up Data Type and the
correct COM port settings are configured to match the PC COM port. Next, a modem driver for the
EXTender must be selected on the PC. When the EXTenders are configured for Serial Data the serial port
behaves as a direct connection bwtween the two computers.

Open the Control Panel on the desktop.

Open the Modems icon in the Control Panel.

Select Add.

(On Windows 95 only) Select Other for modem type. Press NEXT.

Check the box for Don’t detect my modem, I will select it from a list. Press NEXT.

Select (Standard Modem Types) for the manufacturer.

Select Communication Cable Between Two Computers (Window NT/2000) or Dialup Networking
Serial Cable Between 2 PCs (Windows 98) as the model. Press NEXT.

Select the COM Port on the PC that will be used. Press NEXT.
9.
Select FINISH.
10. Return to the Modem Properties window General page.
11. Select the newly added Communication Cable Between Two Computers (Window NT/2000) or Dia-
lup Networking Serial Cable Between 2 PCs (Windows 98) as the model. Press NEXT.
12. Press Properties
Set the Maximum Port Speed to match the COM port data rate configured on the EXTender.
