the NCP parameters configured on the physical interface will take no effect. If NCP 
negotiation is successful, the interface can set up an MP link that can provide a 
wider bandwidth for data transfer.

1 First, the interface begins the LCP negotiation with the peer in normal LCP 

parameters in addition to verifying whether the peer interface is working in MP 
mode. The authentication process may be taken if the authentication parameter is 
set.

2 If learning that the peer is not working in MP mode during the LCP negotiation, 

the interface will go down. Otherwise, it will attempt to perform the NCP 
negotiation using the NCP parameters (such as IP address) in the virtual-template. 
In this case, the NCP parameters configured on the physical interface will take no 
effect. If NCP negotiation is successful, the interface can set up an MP link that 
can provide a wider bandwidth for data transfer.

MP channel can also be bind to MP-group interface, a logical interface with a 
three dimension index name. MP-group interface owns all such characteristics as 
shutdown, undo shutdown, interface backup, flow control, but baud rate setting.

The fundamental configuration is the parameter setting that must be performed 
for running PPP on the router, whereas the advanced configurations are the 
options that can be configured as needed.

Perform the following configuration in interface view.

The 

 command can configure PPP as the link layer protocol 

encapsulated on the interface.

The link layer protocol encapsulated on the interface defaults to PPP.
