Features and Benefits
The Cisco Fax Server allows organizations to reduce costs, save time, and improve productivity by enabling users to
send, receive, and manage documents directly from desktop, email, and other business applications. Based on the
Captaris RightFax Enterprise Suite and Business Server, the Cisco Fax Server can be coupled with enterprise
messaging applications such as Cisco Unity
®
or Cisco Unity Connection 7.0 software to create a powerful unified
messaging solution. When used with Cisco Unity or Cisco Unity Connection messaging software, the Cisco Fax
Server further increases worker productivity by allowing you to view, create, and manage all voicemail, email, and fax
communications from a single client that you can access from PCs, telephones, and mobile devices.
Optional features with Cisco Fax Server 9.4 follow:

Shared services module for Cisco Fax Server Enterprise Suite: The Shared Services Module allows for up to
a maximum of four Cisco Fax Server 9.4 Enterprise Suites to share a single database and services, offering
significant improvements in user administration, load balancing, data redundancy, and support for disaster-
recovery scenarios.

Integrations module for Cisco Fax Server Enterprise Module: The Cisco Fax Server Integrations Module
contains a variety of extended application programming interfaces (APIs) and integration toolsets for
integration into custom applications or into back-end systems not supporting XML integration.
●
Cisco Fax Server XML Generator Module: This module is a specialized adapter for exporting received faxes
as XML data packages that contain fax metadata in XML format that accompany fax images.
●
Connector for SAP R/3 for the Cisco Fax Server Enterprise Module: The Cisco Fax Server SAP Module
supports up to 15 connections to SAP clients.
●
Connector for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Module: The Cisco Fax Server SharePoint Module
allows you to capture images directly in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 to enable business
automation.

Single Click Entry Module: This module enables capturing and extraction of metadata from images in
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 or other Captaris applications to web or InfoPath forms for indexing.
●
Multifunctional printer (MFP) device modules: The Cisco Fax Server offers MFP device modules for HP,
Sharp, Ricoh, Xerox, and Konica Minolta, allowing companies to eliminate standalone fax machines and take
full advantage of the capabilities of these devices.

Boardless fax over IP: The Cisco Fax Server Version 9.4 offers the Brooktrout SR140 transport, a software-
only edition of fax over IP that uses the H.323 and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) protocols. SR140 does
not require a fax board; it requires RightFax 9.4 Feature Pack 1 or later and is available at:

Recommended Servers
Cisco media convergence servers provide highly available server platforms to host IP communications applications
such as the Cisco Fax Server. The following server models are recommended for use with the Cisco Fax Server:
Cisco MCS 7825-I, MCS 7825-H, MCS 7835-H, MCS 7835-I, MCS 7845-I, and MCS 7845-H Media Convergence
