Question:
Why does www.whatismyip.com show information about Cisco WSA.
Environment:
Cisco Web Security Appliance
Symptoms:
Browsing to the site www.whatismyip.com reveals information about the Web Security Device.
www.whatismyip.com is a URL that can be used to find out the public IP address for a connection.
When users visit this website and the users are going through a Cisco Web Appliance,  it will display the Web
Proxy information. This information may not be suitable for the customer environment.
What is My IP − whatismyip.com
Your IP address is: x.x.x.x
Possible Proxy Detected: 1.1
example.wsa.com:<Port#> (Cisco−WSA/a.b.c−ddd)
To make sure that www.whatismyip.com does not pick up the Web Proxy details, the VIA Header must be
turned off on the Cisco Web Appliance. Once the VIA header has been turned off, the Web Proxy information
will no longer be displayed.
The VIA header can disabled from the WSA WebUI:
Security Services > Web Proxy > Edit Settings > Headers > Request Side VIA > Do Not Send
After making this change, you should no longer see the WSA details on www.whatismyip.com
