RecoverPoint and the Cisco SANTap service can be deployed as a high-availability solution for 

mission-critical deployments. The Cisco SANTap service can be used in conjunction with multi-

pathing and redundant fabric deployments, even where initiators (hosts) are performing active-to-

active multi-pathing. 

The Cisco MDS 9000 Family SSM coupled with the EMC RecoverPoint intelligent data protection 

technology creates a superior data protection solution for the heterogeneous enterprise that offers 

exceptional functions, manageability, flexibility, and performance. The Cisco SSM provides a Cisco 

MDS 9000 Family SANTap protocol interface that allows RecoverPoint to protect and replicate 

data in heterogeneous storage and server environments across any distance, with no effect on the 

primary I/O path or applications and without any host footprint. No rewiring, reconfiguration, or host 

software installation is required. Because the RecoverPoint solution with the Cisco SSM card and 

Cisco SANTap is out-of-band, it replicates data with no additional latency or disruption of
