At-a-Glance
Extending Wireless Network Connectivity for IoT
Imagine deploying wireless Internet of Things (IoT) solutions deep
underground, allowing you to accurately monitor and track equipment
location and performance, safety conditions, and workers in your mines
or other industrial settings in real time.
Picture a fully connected railway system with Wi-Fi access for
passengers onboard trains and in stations along with sensors and
cameras that improve safety and lower operating costs.
Cisco enables these network connectivity opportunities and many more
with a new industrial wireless (IW) offering, the Cisco® IW3702.
IoT Growth Challenges Infrastructure
The number of connected things in the mining, transportation,
manufacturing, utilities, and public sector industries is increasing
dramatically. This expansion of IoT and equipment inter-connectivity
creates opportunities for organizations, but it also places new demands
on your infrastructure. For example, with network connectivity, there
is an increased demand for high-speed connections to satisfy the
extremely low-latency requirements of applications (such as high-
speed motion controls) as well as high-bandwidth applications and
services (such as wireless connectivity and HD IP video services).
Resilience, Power, and Scalability from
Cisco Industrial Wireless
The Cisco IW3702 supports industrial IoT networks with the following
features:
•  Delivers industry-leading 802.11ac Wi-Fi to the extreme edge to
improve user experiences and safety for mass transit systems, mining
sites, and other IoT deployments.
•  Designed and certified for extreme environments with extended
operating temperature ranges of -50 to +75°C; vibration rated to IEC
60068-2-6 environmental standards with M12 I/O connectors; and
rugged IP67-rated housing to protect against liquid and dust ingress.
•  Sustains reliable connections at higher speeds farther from the
access point than competing solutions and supports significantly
increased roaming speeds for mobile applications.
