Introduction
This document describes the the Work Queue pipeline and provides details on where to find
information related to the order of processing in the work queue on the Cisco Email Security
Appliance (ESA).
What is the work queue?  What is the order of processing in
the Work Queue?
The Work Queue is where the received message is processed before it moves to the delivery
phase. Processing includes masquerading, routing, filtering, safelist/blocklist scanning, anti-spam
and anti-virus scanning, file reputation scanning and analysis, Outbreak Filters, and quarantining.
For full information in regards to order processing in the work queue and complete understanding
of the work queue pipeline, see the "Work Queue / Routing" chapter of the
 for the
version of AsyncOS for Email Security that matches your ESA.
The order of processing of the Work Queue is dependent upon which revision of AsyncOS for
Email Security is running on the ESA. Each revision has the capability to have newer services
running. For full information in regards to order processing in the work queue and complete
understanding of the work queue pipeline, see the "Understanding the Email Pipeline" chapter of
the
for the version of AsyncOS for Email Security that matches your ESA.
For example, the order of processing of the Work Queue for AsyncOS 9.7 for Email Security is
