When you first set up the Cisco MXE 3500, use this initial configuration procedure to enter the IP
address and password information. Doing this enables the device to connect to the Internet. You can then
access the Cisco MXE 3500 through the IP address for further configuration. Before installing the
Cisco MXE 3500 licenses, you must complete initial configuration.

You need this equipment to perform the initial configuration:

Keyboard with USB connector

Monitor
Follow these steps:
Step 1
Connect the keyboard and monitor to the Cisco MXE 3500 rear panel (see
). Connect your
network cable to the 10/100/1000 Ethernet port 1.
Step 2
Press the Power On/Standby button
on the Cisco MXE 3500 front panel.
Step 3
When prompted, log in with these default MXE admin account credentials:

User Name: admin

Password: change_it
The Configure Network Settings screen displays.
Step 4
Enter these required network settings: IP Address, Network Mask, and Default Gateway. Click Next
to continue, and click OK to apply the configuration. The screen might appear blank while the
configuration process completes, which can take several minutes.

Click OK when the Success screen displays.

(Optional) Enter these network settings: Hostname, Domain Name, DNS Server, and NTP Server.

Enter a new Password and then Verify Password for the MXE admin account.

Click Next to continue, and click OK to apply the configuration. The screen might appear blank while

(Optional) Press the spacebar to Enable Shared Folder Password.
Step 10
Click Next to continue. Then, click OK to apply the configuration and exit the configuration wizard.
You can now access the Cisco MXE 3500 web UI at this URL: http://mxe_IP_address/mxeui/
Log in by using these default web UI admin account credentials:

User Name—admin

Password—admin
