The VR88 is an excellent kick drum microphone, but due to the powerful wind blast 

they produce you must be extremely careful on how you position the microphone. 

For direct miking, position the mi-

crophone at least 18 inches from the 

drum. 

For closer miking, place the micro-

phone 10 to 18 inches, but be sure to 

position the microphone at a 45 degree 

angle to avoid excessive wear to the 

ribbon. Figure 4.

The top view shows a horizontal posi-

tioning technique with the microphone 

tilted 7 to 15 degrees off-axis. Figure 5.
