Use mostly as a telephone
You want to answer calls by yourself.
If a fax call is received, you must
receive the fax manually.
TEL
1. Set the manual answer setting to TEL mode
(feature #404).
R This step is only for models that support TEL/
FAX mode. (y)
2. Mv/FAX AUTO ANSWERN (repeatedly): “TEL
MODE”
R The Mv/FAX AUTO ANSWERN light turns
OFF.
Use as a telephone and/or fax
You want to answer phone calls
yourself and receive faxes
automatically without the unit ringing.
R This feature is available only for
models that support TEL/FAX
mode. (y)

1. Set the manual answer setting to TEL/FAX mode
(feature #404).
2. Mv/FAX AUTO ANSWERN (repeatedly):
“TEL/FAX MODE”
R The Mv/FAX AUTO ANSWERN light turns
OFF.
Use with an answering machine
You want to use the unit with an
answering machine.
1. Connect an extension telephone answering
machine.
2. Set the ring count of the answering machine to less
than 4.
R Set the ring count in FAX ONLY mode of the
unit to more than 4, if you use with auto answer
ON.
Note:
R For TEL mode and TEL/FAX mode (y):
– Use with an extension telephone, if a handset unit is not supplied with your unit (page 10).
– The ringer volume setting should be ON.
R A4 or letter size recording paper is recommended.
R Received faxes may be stored in memory depending on the paper size settings. See feature #380 for details.
8.5 Basic features of receiving a fax
8.5.1 FAX ONLY mode
How faxes are received
When receiving calls, the unit will automatically answer all calls and only receive fax documents.
How to change the ring count
MCDN: Display the desired setting. A MOK/SETN
R You can also change the number of rings in fax ring count setting (feature #210).
8.5.2 TEL mode
How to receive phone calls and faxes
You have to answer all calls manually. To receive a fax document, press Mx/STARTN and then M2N.
