Access Point. A device, such as a

wireless router, that allows other wireless

devices to connect to a network or the

Internet. Also referred to as a Gateway if

the device is the point to the wireless

network.

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. A

DHCP server automatically issues IP

addresses within a specified range to

devices on a network. A DHCP client

receives addressing and other

information from the DHCP server.

WavePoint 10e can be set up is a DHCP

server.

Fully Qualified Domain Name. Also

known as DNS namespace, is a hierarchy

that can logically locate a system based

on its domain identifier.

Internet Control Message Protocol. Also

known as ICMPv4 and ICMPv6.

Networked devices use this protocol to

send error messages.

Internet Service Provider.

Multiple input, multiple output. Use of

multiple transmitters and receiver

antennas to increase data throughput.

Microsoft Point-to-Point Encryption.

Network Time Protocol is a protocol that

works in conjunction with other

synchronization utilities to ensure that all

computers on a given network agree on

the time.

Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet. A

network configuration used for

establishing a PPP connection using

an Ethernet protocol.

Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol. A

networking standard used for connecting

to VPNs. The Point-to-Point Protocol
