Several powerful built-in communication devices are available in your computer. By
using Windows XP’s plug and play components or connection components, or other
connection utilities, you can connect your computer to peripheral devices, computers,
networks or the Internet, to gain access to resources and functionality, or to
communicate with your friends, co-workers and the rest of the world, no matter where
you are physically located.

Plug and Play
Connect and disconnect devices without shutting down or restarting the computer.

USB is an external bus that supports Plug and Play installation. You can use a single
USB port to connect up to 127 peripheral devices, including keyboards, Mouses, disk
drives, CD/DVD-ROM drives, etc. Your computer has two USB 2.0 ports which
transfer data at speed up to 480 Mbps and are backward compatible with USB 1.1
which transfers data at up to 12 Mbps.

and Play installation feature makes an USB connection automatically.
FireWire (IEEE 1394) link
FireWire (IEEE 1394) is a serial bus interface standard offering high-speed
communications and isochronous real-time data services and is commonly used for
connection of data storage devices and digital video. But it’s also popular in industrial
systems for machine vision and professional audio systems. Your computer has two
4-pin FireWire400 ports which transfer data at speed up to 400 Mbps and also
supports Plug and Play installation.
Connect a FireWire-equipped device to any of your computer’s FireWire ports. The
Plug and Play installation feature makes a FireWire connection automatically.

The computer’s FireWire ports do not provide power. The devices which will be used to connect with the computer must have their own power.
