• Multiplexing of jobs. This capability is
extensible to Exchange data backups.
Multiplexing provides several benefits:
– Multiple jobs can write to the same
media simultaneously.
– Multiple parallel operations reduce
the backup window
• Enhanced Cluster Support offers
support for Active/Active and Active/Passive
clustering with cross-cluster node failover.
Job Continuation: If a job fails to complete,
under certain circumstances (such as a
cluster failover), the job can complete
where it left off.
• Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS)

Backup Agent for Open Files incorporates
writer support for VSS applications on
Windows Server 2003.
• Report Writer. Allows customization of
content and layout of report templates
which can be used to create custom
reports for Exchange backup and
restore jobs.
Agent for Microsoft Exchange Premium
Add-on. The Premium Add-on enhances
the BrightStor ARCserve Backup Agent
for Microsoft Exchange. The Premium
Add-on provides:
• Document-Level Restore. Allows for
selection of storage group, mailbox,
folder (see Figure 2), or even a particular
document to restore via browsing objects
or query.
• Microsoft’s Single Instance Storage
(SIS). Maximizes performance and
flexibility by supporting SIS to
– Back up file attachments and messages
only once
– Saves time, space and storage resources
• Advanced Filtering. Backup filters give
the ability to exclude specific folders,
mailboxes or attachments from a backup
job. For example, a filter can be set to
exclude backup of attachments with a
file extension “.mp3.”
