10G Transponder for WDM Integration
The xTGFF product family is also intended for customers looking for a 10GbE
transponder for bridging a WDM system with an existing optical network.
transponder for bridging a WDM system with an existing optical network.
Even though most 10GbE connections today are modular, a transponder can
be useful in at least 2 different instances:
be useful in at least 2 different instances:
1. When a switch blocks optics from other vendors
2. When the 10GbE port on a switch does not support WDM optics.
In Figure 2, standard optical signals are received by the xTGFFs on port one
and are sent out port two as a specific CWDM wavelength. When combining the
xTGFFs and a CWDM network, a network operator has the ability to get up to
160G of throughput on a signal pair of fibers. Additionally, by retiming, reshaping,
and reamplifying the signal, the xTGFF ensures the signal’s integrity is maintained
no matter how many hops are needed to reach the destination.
