Product Migration Options
Customers are encouraged to upgrade to the Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAAS)
Software 4.0. Information about this product can be found at:

. Upgrade information: Existing Cisco
WAFS Software 2.5 and 3.0 customers who wish to upgrade to Cisco WAAS Software 4.0 are
required to provide a dedicated WAE device for WAAS Central Manager functionality. The
upgrade license product identification is WAFS-WAAS-MGR-UPG=. Cisco WAFS customers with
current Cisco Software Application Support plus Upgrade (SASU) contracts can upgrade free of
charge. Existing Cisco WAE devices running Cisco WAFS Software 2.5 or 3.0 can be upgraded to
Cisco WAAS Software 4.0 with upgrade license WAAS-WAFS2ENT-APL=. Cisco WAFS Software
2.5 and 3.0 customers with current SASU contracts can upgrade to WAAS 4.0 Enterprise free of
charge. WAE devices running both WAFS Core and WAFS Edge services will require a minimum
of 2 GB of RAM to continue to run both services with Cisco WAAS Software 4.0. It is highly
recommended that existing WAE devices running Cisco WAFS Software 3.0 with 512 MB of RAM
are upgraded to have 1 GB of RAM before upgrading to Cisco WAAS Software 4.0. An in-place
upgrade is supported only for devices running Cisco WAFS Software 3.0. Cisco WAFS Software
2.5 will require re-initialization using a Cisco WAAS Software 4.0 recovery CD. Cisco WAAS
Software 2.5 50-user license SF-ASTOR-50-K9= is obsolete and discontinued,as user-based
licensing is no longer used. Cisco WAFS Software 2.5 and 3.0 customers using NM-CE-BP-80G-
K9 with SF-WAFS-3.0-NM-K9 should migrate to NME-WAE-502-K9 with SF-WAAS-4.0-NM-K9
and WAAS-ENT-NM.
