EOL5435, Amended
Cisco Systems
®
announces the end-of-sale and end-of life dates for the Cisco Wide Area
File Services (WAFS) Software Releases 2.5 and 3.0. The last day to order the Cisco
Wide Area File Services (WAFS) Software Releases 2.5 and 3.0 is June 15, 2007.
Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco
Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as shown in Table 1 of the EoL bulletin. Table 1
describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the Cisco Wide Area File
Services (WAFS) Software Releases 2.5 and 3.0. Table 2 lists the product part numbers
affected by this announcement.
Cisco Wide Area File Services (WAFS) Software Releases 2.5 and 3.0 are superseded by Cisco
Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) Software 4.0. Cisco WAAS Software 4.0 offers enhanced
functionality and an additional feature set over Cisco WAFS Software 2.5 and 3.0. In addition to
enhancing the Wide Area File Services features, Cisco WAAS Software 4.0 adds a comprehensive
set of Wide Area Application Acceleration features to optimize performance of TCP-based
applications across the WAN. To accelerate application and file performance and to reduce WAN
bandwidth usage, Cisco WAAS incorporates application acceleration and WAN optimization
techniques, including compression, redundancy elimination, transport optimizations, caching, and
content distribution. These techniques help overcome the bandwidth, throughput, and latency
limitations associated with TCP/IP and application protocols.
