HP PolyServe Software Improves Performance,  
Reliability, and Stability of HP Revision and 
Configuration Management Tool
HP provides a vital customer service called Revision and Configuration Manage- 
ment (RCM), which collects configuration, revision, and patch data that are used 
to create detailed configuration, change, comparison, and analysis reports. 
RCM tracks an estimated 90,000 mission-critical servers worldwide and is vital 
for the proper functioning of many data centers. 
Because of its importance to customers, HP is continually looking for ways to 
improve the service, and wanted to replace the existing infrastructure with one 
that would be even more effective. It was looking for a solution that would 
increase performance, improve stability and availability, be flexible, work with 
the existing SAN and storage infrastructure, and aid in data center consolidation.
HP chose the HP PolyServe Software, which has improved performance,  
reliability, and availability of the RCM application. Since its implementation, 
downtime has decreased. The new solution is easier to manage than the  
previous solution, and far more scalable. Due to the HP PolyServe Software,  
the shared filesystem is more reliable, resulting in improved performance and 
reliability of the RCM application.
Performance improvements have been, in some cases, dramatic. Previous to 
deployment of the HP PolyServe Software, it could take up to 30 minutes to 
obtain a large directory listing. After deployment, getting that same large 
directory listing takes only 30 seconds.
