Fig. 22: Circuit diagram Gambling
The resistor R1 and the capacitator C1 generate the relatively long time constant. When the switching threshold of IC1A is reached, the
output (Pin 3) will switch to a low level and be inverted via the gate IC1B. The high level at pin 4 leads to passing through of the
transistor T1 and discharges the capacitator C1 more quickly via R2, since the resistance is only 10 k
Ω . If the button is pushed now while
the high level is applied to pin 9 of IC1C, the output (pin 10) will have a low level that is inverted via IC1D and thus switches on the LED.
3.7 Binary Dice
The Binary Dice are a single electronic die that works with only 3 LEDs. Three LEDs cannot show six pips as in other electronic dice, but
the number rolled is shown as a binary number. LED V3 (yellow) has the value 1, LED V2 (green) has the value 2 and LED V1 (red) has
the value 4. The following table shows which LEDs are lit for which number. The first column shows the number rolled and the X in the
corresponding columns below the LED indicates that the LED will be lit.
Table 3: Overview of the lit LEDs at the rolled number

For 5, the LEDs V1 and V3 must be lit. Adding the values of the two numbers leads to: 4+1=5.
While the button is pushed, the LEDs will change their condition quickly and make it impossible to recognise any number. After the
buttons are released, the LEDs remain in a stable condition and the rolled number can be read.
The circuit is sized so that switching of the individual conditions can still be recognised. If any players are still able to recognise the
numbers and mange to let go at just the right moment, the cycle can be sped up. For this, the resistance of R1 needs to be reduced. The
resistance of 100 k
Ω can be replaced with one of 10 kΩ , for example. The conditions then switch about 10 times as quickly.
