8. Preparations
The model ship „Scorpion“ is delivered ready for operation. Only a few steps, such as installation of the receiver
system, are required for commissioning.
Before completing the model or taking it into operation, read each section carefully. The construction stages
are almost always illustrated for better understanding.
Please note that the numbers in the text always refer to the components in the illustration to the right.
Models of this category are, however, usually assembled according to the user’s own wishes and ideas.
Only carry out the steps described in the different sections if you have completely understood the procedure
and know exactly what to observe.
a) Installation and Connection of the Servo
Water is much harder than air. Therefore, ship models require steering servos with a much higher actuating
power as compared to boat size than plane models would. See our catalogues at www.conrad.com for tried
and tested accessories.
• The adjacent figure shows the opened body boat
with the steering servo (1), the speed controller
(2), as well as a possible installation site for the
receiver (3).
• Take off the hull deck by pushing in the closure
while also turning it clockwise at a 90° angle.
• Connect the steering servo to channel 1 of the
receiver.
Start the remote control. The receiver system is
ideally not supplied with the BEC of the speed
controller yet, but by a receiver battery (or battery
box) from the accessories of the remote control.
For this, observe the operating instructions for the
remote control system.
• Set the steering and the associated trimming to the neutral position at the activated transmitter. Now provisionally
attach the steering servo into the holder of the RC box as displayed in figure 1. Mark and drill a hole for the steering
linkage into the RC box so that that linkage is possible as straight as possible.
• Guide the thrust rod from the rudder system inside to the RC-box and attach the rods to the linkage lever of the
rudder system. Use figure 2 for reference as well. Attach the rudder horn onto the servo sot hat the rudder horn is
aligned precisely with the longitudinal direction of the servo in the neutral position (see figure 1). Secure the rudder
horn at the servo output with the central screw. Attach the linkage rods with the linkage connection to the rudder
horn. Check the function of the steering servo.
• Now attach the steering servo in the holder of the RC box with the accessories of the servo delivery.
