4.5
USING THE TEST SET FOR FAULT FINDING ON TC12 SYSTEM
4.5.1 General
By connecting the test set into the TC12 system both at the Instation and
Outstation and using the three modes available, it should be possible to isolate the
item causing the problem i.e. the Instation, Outstation or the line between the two.

4.5.2  Starting up the Test Set
Ensure mains supply is suitable for ITS (see rating label), Connect to mains and
switch on the mains at the test set (switch should illuminate).

IMPORTANT NOTE - For UK Usage make sure that the Transmit Level of the
Test Set is set between –13 dBm and –63 dBm. Under NO circumstances
should the transmit level be set higher than –13 dBm, i.e. the attenuation
switches should be set to at least 13 dBm (see below).

Switch on PC

If PC auto boots into test set software, then after PC has done all of its own
checks and loaded DOS the ITS software should auto load and the front screen
should be displayed.
If PC does not auto boot then after the PC has done all of its own checks and
loaded DOS and the C: prompt is displayed type in batch file name as follows ITS
<CR>. The ITS software should load and the front screen should be displayed.

After successful loading of the ITS software the front screen will be replaced by a
prompted indicating what baud rate the test set has been initialised to (taken from
default.sav file which contains the set up of ITS as it was when last used). The
user is prompted to ensure that the hardware (MODEMS) is set to the same baud
rate.

After setting correct baud rate and confirming this by pressing any key, the user
will be prompted for the location of the test set, AT INSTATION or AT
OUTSTATION. This is important as this enables the correct loading factor to be
employed to obtain accurate line levels.

After choosing the correct location and confirming by pressing ENTER, this prompt
will be replaced by the main menu of the test set. Pressing F1 will obtain help on
the menu system. Activating one of the sub menus then any of the choices in
those sub menus and then pressing F1 will obtain help on that choice.

Before plugging the test set into the system the user must now configure the test
set for the line to be tested.

4.5.2.1  Entering Information About the line and OTUs into the ITS
IF the information for the line has previously been entered and saved as an ITS
DATA file this may now be recalled. Go to the "MANAGER" option, select
