IBM Lotus Domino. With Modular Messaging—MSS, this 
system must be on the private LAN that connects the MAS units 
and the MSS. 
Note: If customers purchase an additional S3400 system for 
the Offline Call Answer store, Avaya recommends 
installing the Tracing Server also on this system. 
Avaya also recommends that the Modular Messaging 
Administration Client be run from this system, due to 
their intensive resource requirements.

Note: This release of Modular Messaging does not support 
configurations with the Offline Call Answer Store on a MAN 
or WAN.
Calculating the 
number of hours for 
message storage
To calculate the number of hours required for the Offline Call Answer 
store to store messages, planners must have these details:

The total number of mailboxes on the system (M)
!
The total number of Call Answer (voice and fax) messages 
received daily per subscriber. The default is 5. (nCA)
!
The average length of Call Answer (voice and fax) messages, in 
seconds. The default is 30. (L)
!
The number of messaging application server (MAS) units in the 
voice mail domain. (nMAS)
!
The retention time in hours, for offline Call Answer messages. 
The default is 24, but can be changed to any value from 1 to 99. 
(HRS)

Message encoding format: GSM or G.711
The rules for calculating the hours of storage are:

Hours required per 24-hour period (24HRS): (M x nCA x L) / 
3600
!
Hours required for "n" hour periods (nHRS): 24HRS x nHRS/24
The calculation for evaluating whether the Offline Call Answer store 
must be located on an MAS or on a separate S3400 system are:
