Choose how the camera focuses.

* Shutter can only be released if camera is able to focus.

: The camera automatically selects AF-S if the subject

is stationary, AF-C if it is moving.

: For stationary subjects. Focus locks when the shutter-

release button is pressed halfway.

: For subjects in motion. The

camera focuses continuously on the
subject in the AF-area brackets while
the shutter-release button is pressed
halfway (note that the AF-area brackets
appear only in the detailed display;
0 6). Photos can be taken whether or
not the camera is in focus.

: For subjects in motion. The camera focuses continu-

ously; photos can be taken whether or not the camera is in focus.

: Focus manually (

0 102). Photos can be taken

whether or not the camera is in focus.

The focus modes available vary with the shooting mode as shown
below.

t, u, v, w

AF-A (default), AF-S, 
AF-C, MF

s Active Selection, 
t Slow view

0 HD movie, 1 Fast motion, 
2 Jump cut, 3 4-second movie

AF-F (default), AF-S, 
MF

y Slow motion

AF-S (default), MF

Focus mode can also be accessed from both the shooting (

0 189) menus.
