Two creations that are making
history: The Leica M3 and the MINOX
miniature camera
The fact that a Leica is far more than a ca-
mera has been proved time and again by
its creators. A good example is the Leica
M3, which had its great moment in 1954 –
four years after the launch of the elegant
masterpiece, the Leica IIIf. With its built-in
bright line view and range finder and its in-
novative bayonet interchanger for the lens,
the Leica M3 was a technical revolution
that took the hearts of notable photogra-
phers and experts by storm. And what
about MINOX? For a long time this name,
whose triumphant progress also began in
the early 1950s, has been synonymous with
miniature cameras. The creation of the ge-
nius Walter Zapp, now 96, provides unpar-
alleled evidence of how 375 individual
components can be combined into a sensa-
tional (small) unit.
