How to Correct Duplexed, Second-Side Page Registration
Duplex printing (printing on both sides) is a wonderful feature in the Xerox
DocuColor 12. However, one printing concern that occurs on most duplex copiers
(including the DocuColor 12) is that the second side page image alignment is usually
out of register anywhere from 1/32" to 1/2". This is a concern if you are proofing
folded brochures or any document that requires accurate alignment on both sides.
This deficiency is caused by the mechanical components of the copier rather than the
data generated by the Imation Matchprint™ Professional Server. A technician can try
and repair an alignment problem, but the adjustment will shift after regular usage of
the copier.
Since there are no calibration settings in the Imation Matchprint™ Professional
Server, Xerox DocuColor 12, or the Adobe PostScript writer, the page alignment
must be done in the desktop publishing application (i.e., QuarkXPress, InDesign,
Pagemaker, etc.).
Use the following procedure to correct this alignment problem:
1.  Create a registration guide on page one.
2.  Copy the contents on page one and paste it in the same location as page one.
3.  Print at least six copies of the two pages with Duplexing on.
4.  Look at the two-sided printed media using a light table or a bright light
behind he media to inspect the out-of-alignment registration marks. Measure
the differences horizontally and vertically, then average the difference
between each copy.
5.  Highlight all elements on the second page and move the contents the average
distances obtained in the previous step.
6.  Print several copies to check the alignment.
There may be a 1/64" to 1/32" alignment difference between each copy, but the
registration will be significantly better than before.
Image Placement Issues
Several factors influence the orientation of an image on a printed page. These
include:
•  whether the image is viewed in portrait or landscape mode,
•  whether the user decides to rotate the image before printing,
•  paper size, and
•  whether the paper in the DocuColor 12 copier is fed Short Edge First (SEF) or
Long Edge First (LEF).
