Shadow server switchover
To perform the basic switchover procedure:
1.
Shut down the primary server (or take it off the network).
2.
Log on to the command line interface on the shadow server.
3.
Use the setup command and select

to tell the server to switch into
standalone conference server mode.
4.
Restart the server.
You must also redirect the telephony connections to this server. MeetingPlace
gateway servers should switch automatically if the system configuration is
correct. There are two things to check:

•
The required unit (server) record is in the shadow server database.
•
The DNS table entry that the gateway uses to access the primary server
also has an IP address for the shadow server.

If the gateway does not switch automatically, try changing the GWSIM
configuration to point to the new server. You might also need to re-register the
gateway (part of the GWSIM install procedure). MeetingTime can also use

After a shadow switchover
After a switchover, the active server (the old shadow server), handles calls
much the same as the old primary server, except that old meeting recordings
and attachments aren’t available. This assumes that the system configurations
were maintained the same (for example, any custom prompts and flex menus
are set up similarly on both machines).

After a switchover, meeting recordings, attachments, user name recordings,
and custom prompts stored on the primary server are unavailable. However,

When the old primary server is running again, you may choose between these
options:
options:
•
Continue daily operations on the active server, and have the original
primary server configured as a shadow server

•
Revert to the old primary server and configure the active server as a
shadow server again

In deciding between these two options, consider the following questions:
•
How long has the shadow server been active? The longer it is in operation,
the more changes take place on the database as users schedule and attend
new meetings. As a result, the amount of time required to re-synchronize
with the original server increases.
