SNMP Overview
The switch can be managed by using a combination of Management Information
Base (MIB) variables, whose combined values represent all facets of the system
state, and the SNMP protocol. SNMP can examine and modify the MIB values. The
switch supports SNMPv1, SNMPv2, and SNMPv3. SNMPv1 and SNMPv2 define
access through membership in communities that are ranges of IP addresses and
associated read/write values. SNMPv3 uses a more secure access scheme by
defining individual SNMP users and configuring the authentication and encryption
protocols they use for access. The switch supports all versions simultaneously.

Enabling SNMP Mode
SNMP is disabled by default. To enable:

Click SNMP > Properties in the navigation wndow.
STEP 2
Click Enable for the SNMP Mode.
STEP 3
Click Apply. Your changes are saved to the running configuration.
Setting the SNMPv3 Engine ID
SNMPv3 employs the following features to provide secure management access to
the switch:

SNMPv3 authentication and encryption keys are generated based on the SNMP
user passwords and an administratively-unique local engine ID that you can
configure.

To configure an engine ID:
STEP 1
Click SNMP > Properties in the navigation window.

Specify the engine ID as a concatenated, hexadecimal string. Each hexadecimal
pair represents one byte and the pairs are contigious (not separated by a space,
period, or colon). The range is 3–16 pairs.
