Follow these instructions to determine whether port 5162
on the DNCS is available for the NMI software to receive
SNMP traps.

From an xterm window, type grep 5162 /etc/services
and then press Enter.

Is port 5162 available for the NMI software to receive
SNMP traps?
Notes:
If port 5162 does not appear in the output of the
command, then the port is available for use to receive
SNMP traps.
If an entry for this port does appear in the output, the
port is available for use to receive SNMP traps as long
as the comment portion of the entry indicates
something similar to "Used by NMI".
Follow these instructions to determine whether your DNCS
is able to successfully ping each Alarm Manager server by
IP address and hostname.

From an xterm window, type ping [Alarm Manager
server IP address] and then press Enter.

From an xterm window, type ping [Alarm Manager
hostname] and then press Enter.

Repeat steps 1 and 2 for each Alarm Manager server.

Did a message similar to device is alive appear each
time? If yes, then the ping command was successful.
Do you have a recent backup of the DNCS database and
filesystem?
If you do not have a recent backup, refer to DBDS Backup
If you do not have a recent backup, refer to DBDS Backup
and Restore Procedures For SR 2.2 Through 4.2 (part number
4013779 Revision A) for instructions on backing up the
DNCS database and filesystem.
