Consume its resources (memory, CPU) from the hypervisor server

Deployed out-of-band, one service appliance per hypervisor; do not require connectivity to user VM
vNICs (no overlay connectivity needed)
◦
Typically implemented inside the virtual switch code in the hypervisor
