Using the CUBASE 
FUNCTION Buttons
Default functions
When using Cubase, you can call up various 
windows within Cubase by using the CUBASE 
FUNCTION [A] and [B] buttons.
 When using Cubase 4/Cubase Studio 4:
The CUBASE FUNCTION [A] button can be used 
for calling up the Sound Browser dialog.
The CUBASE FUNCTION [B] button can be used 
for calling up the Mixer window.
 When using Cubase AI4:
The CUBASE FUNCTION [A] button can be used 
for calling up the List Editor window.
CUBASE FUNCTION [B] button can be used for 
calling up the Mixer window.
The functions of the CUBASE FUNCTION [A] and 
[B] buttons can be changed as desired. For details, 
see the next section.
Assigning different functions to the 
buttons
The buttons for controlling Cubase can be changed 
as desired. To do this, follow the instructions below:
1.
Select “Device Setup” from the Device 
menu.
The “Device Setup” dialog appears.

Click “Yamaha KX” in the Device column.
The following buttons are assignable.
• CUBASE FUNCTION [A] and [B] buttons
• [ASSIGN 1] and [ASSIGN 2] buttons
• [MUTE] button
• [SOLO] button
• [VSTi WINDOW] button
• [ADD INSTRUMENT TRACK] button

Click the Category column of the desired 
button, then select the desired Category 
from the pop-up menu.
When selecting a Category that includes 
multiple commands, click the Command 
column, then select the desired function from 
the pop-up menu.
The commands available for assignment 
depend on the selected category. For example, 
selecting the “MIDI” category allows you to call 
up various MIDI-related commands, such as 
Quantize, Velocity, etc.

Click [OK] after completing the setup.
The “Device Setup” dialog closes.
HINT
There are many Categories and many Commands 
within each Category. You may want to spend some 
time and check them out at your leisure. That way 
you can find the commands you need to use the 
most in your music production, and find the ones 
that best suit your personal preferences and your 
own workflow.
