MAINTENANCE
Checking your pole system:
Check your pole system at least twice a year.
1. Check for loose nuts and bolts. If loose, tighten
according to this Owner's Manual.
2. Check for loose paint or rust;
A) Sand areas to remove loose paint or rust.
B) Clean the sanded areas with a damp cloth and
allow to dry thoroughly.
C) Apply two coats of high gloss enamel paint to
the area. Follow the instructions on paint container.
3. If rust has penetrated through the pole, replace it
immediately.
4. Check parts for excessive wear and tear. If worn or
damaged, replace them.
The life of your basketball pole system depends on
many conditions and variables. The climate, the
location of the pole, exposure to corrosives (such
as salts, pesticides, or herbicides), and excessive
use or abuse can all contribute to shortening the
life of the basketball pole system or to causing
personal injury or property damage.
ADJUSTING THE UNIT
WHEN ADJUSTING OR MOVING THIS UNIT, KEEP HANDS AND
FINGERS AWAY FROM AREAS WHERE CLEARANCE BETWEEN PARTS
CAN CHANGE. HANDS AND FINGERS CAN BE PINCHED, AND SERIOUS
INJURY CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION!
Height decals (#51) have been included
with this system for you to apply to your
pole. To do this, have another person
measure the goal height while you adjust the slider clamp. When
the goal height is at 10 feet, place the "10" decal on the pole
just above the pole ballast on the backside of pole, so that when
the top of the pole ballast is just below the "10", the goal will be
at ten feet. Repeat this process for the "9", "8", and "7-6" decals
(the "7-6" decal denotes seven feet, six inches).
You will need to adjust locknut (#55) securing the lever to the
slider shims. When the lever is locked (down) you should not be
able to move the backboard up and down. When the lever is
unlocked (pointing backwards) the backboard should float freely
up and down.
With the lever locked tightened the locknut (#55) so that the
board will not move when pulling on the rim. Test the adjustment
by unlocking the lever. Holding the pull tube, push and pull  the
pull tube up and down the pole. If it doesn't slide freely, loosen
the locknut slightly. Move lever to the locked position, if you can
move the board by pulling on rim. Tighten locknut slightly. Repeat
this procedure until you have achieved a smooth, easy moving
adjustment that will not move when lever is in the locked position.
STORAGE
If you know the unit won't be used or if high winds or
severe weather is forecast, prepare the unit for moving
as described in steps 1 through 3 above, and move to
an area protected from the wind and free from personal
property and overhead power lines. This will reduce
the risk of the unit blowing over, which could cause
property damage or personal injury. Do not store close
to power lines. Laying the unit down on its rim, then
rolling onto its side is the safest position for long-
term storage.
1.
Adjust height of goal to lowest position, move lever to the
locked position so that linkage will not move.
2.
Carefully tilt the unit forward until wheels contact ground,
and roll unit to its new position.
3.
Avoid steep inclines and be sure its new position is free
from rocks or sharp objects which may puncture the
ballast.
