This vehicle handles differently from an ordinary passenger car in driving conditions which may occur on streets 
and highways and off-road. DRIVE WITH CARE AnD WEAR A SAFETY BELT AT ALL TIMES. Ford urges you to read the 

Owner’s Guide and Driving Your SUV or Truck Supplement for 

further information on safe driving precautions  

and instructions.

Use extreme caution with any device or feature 

that may take your attention off the road. Your 

primary concern is safe operation of the 

vehicle. Only use non-essential 

features and devices when it is 

safe to do so.

Turn the 

control one position 

to the right 

 

to turn 

on the parking lamps, 

instrument panel 

lamps, license plate 

lamps and tail lamps. 

Turn the control to 

the second position 

on the right 

 

to turn 

on the headlamps. 

Turn the control one 

position to the left  

 

to activate the 

autolamp feature, 

which automatically 

turns the exterior 

lamps on and off, 

based on available 

daylight. Pull the 

control toward you to 

activate the fog lamps 

(if equipped). (The fog 

lamps will not operate 

when the headlamps 

are turned off (O) or 

when the high beams 

are on).

 

Rotate the end 

of the control up to 

increase the speed of 

the wipers and rotate 

down to decrease 

the speed of the 

®wipers. Briefly press 

the end of the stalk 

for a single swipe of 

the wipers without 

washer fluid. A quick 

push and hold results 

in three swipes with 

washer fluid while 

a longer push and 

hold activates the 

wash pattern for up 

to five seconds. A 

‘courtesy wipe’ will 

automatically occur 

after the washing 

cycle to ensure that 

any drips have been 

cleared from your 

windshield. Your 

wipers are speed 

dependent and  

will automatically 

adjust depending  

on vehicle speed.
Your vehicle may be 

equipped with rain 

sensing wipers which 

will automatically 

activate when 

moisture is sensed 

on the windshield. 

To operate your rear 

window wiper, turn 

the rear wiper control 

to 1 (intermittent 

speed), 2 (normal 

speed), or off. For a 

rear wash cycle, turn 

the rear wiper control 

to the 

 

position. 

To turn on the 

highbeams, push the 

lever away from you. 

Pull the lever toward 

you to deactivate. Pull 

the lever towards you 

slightly and release to 

activate the ‘flash to 

pass’ feature. 

 

The ABS light

illuminates briefly 

when the ignition is 

turned on. If the ABS 

light remains on or 

continues to flash, a 

malfunction has been 

detected. Contact 

your authorized 

dealer as soon as 

possible. normal 

braking (less ABS) is 

still functional unless 

the brake warning 

light 

 

is also 

illuminated.

 

The 

service engine soon 

light

illuminates 

briefly when the 

ignition is turned on. 

If it remains on or 

is blinking after the 

engine is started, the 

On Board Diagnostics 

System (OBD-II) 

has detected a 

malfunction. Drive in  

a moderate fashion 

and contact your 

authorized dealer as 

soon as possible. 

 

The 

message center 

displays important 

vehicle information 

through a constant 

monitoring of vehicle 

systems. The system 

will notify you or 

potential vehicle 

problems with a 

display. Refer to your 

Owner’s Guide for 

more information.

 

Your vehicle may be 

equipped with an 

AdvanceTrac® stability 

system. This system 

focuses on three 

main areas: Traction 

Control

TM

 (which helps 

avoid wheel spin 

and loss of traction), 

Electronic Stability 

Control (which helps 

avoid skids or lateral 

slides), and Roll 

Stability Control™ 

(which helps avoid 

a vehicle roll-over). 

These features work 

together to help you 

to maintain stability 

and steerability of 

your vehicle during 

a variety of road 

conditions. If your 

vehicle becomes 

stuck in the snow, 

mud or sand, try 

turning off the 

AdvanceTrac

 system 

to allow wheel spin 

and help increase 

momentum to dig 

the vehicle out. The 

system defaults to 

on at start-up. The 

control will illuminate 

when turned off and 

during an event that 

activates the system.

Press to 

activate the front and 

rear direction signals 

when your vehicle 

is disabled and is 

creating a safety 

hazard for other 

motorists. Press 

again to turn off. 

The hazard flashers 

will operate when 

the ignition is in any 

position or when the 

ignition is turned off.

 

Press 

to clear the rear 

window of fog and 

thin ice. The rear 

window defroster will 

automatically turn 

off after 15 minutes  

of operation.

Your vehicle is 

equipped with a Tow 

Haul feature which 

improves transmission 

operation when towing 

a trailer or a heavy 

load. To activate Tow 

Haul, press the button 

on the side of the 

gearshift lever. The 

TOW HAUL indicator 

light will illuminate in 

the instrument cluster. 

To deactivate, press 

the button on the side 

of the gearshift lever 

again. Drive with the 

vehicle in Overdrive 

(D) with Tow Haul 

off for the best fuel 

economy. Refer to 

your Owner’s Guide  

for more information.

Your 

vehicle may be 

equipped with the 

Control Trac system 

which allows you to 

choose between 2H 

(2WD High), 4A (4x4 

Auto), 4H (4x4), or 

4L (4x4 Low) modes. 

Choose 2H (2WD High) 

to provide power to 

the rear wheels only – 

used mainly for driving 

on dry pavement. 

Choose 4A (4x4 Auto) 

for all on-road driving 

conditions, such as 

dry road surfaces, 

wet pavement, snow 

or gravel. Choose 4H 

(4x4) for severe winter 

or off-road conditions, 

such as deep snow, 

ice or shallow sand. 

(not intended for 

dry pavement use.) 

Choose 4L (4x4 

low) only when you 

need extra gearing 

to provide maximum 

power when climbing 

steep grades, going 

through deep sand 

or pulling a boat out 

of the water. For

 spEEd control 

To set the speed 

control, press and 

release On. Accelerate 

to the desired speed. 

Press and release  

SET + and take your 

foot off the accelerator 

pedal. The speed 

control indicator light 

 

will illuminate 

in the cluster. To 

set a higher speed: 

press and hold SET+ 

until the desired 

speed is reached, or 

briefly press SET+ to 

increase the speed by 

small amounts. To set 

a lower speed: press 

and hold SET- until 

the desired speed 

is reached, or briefly 

press SET- to decrease 

the speed by small 

amounts. Press 

RES to return to the 

previously set speed. 

To turn speed control 

off, depress the brake 

pedal or press OFF.

 

 

Press the top of the 

control p to move the 

pedals closer to you 

or the bottom of the 

control q to move 

the pedals further 

away from you. The 

pedals should only 

be adjusted when the 

vehicle is stopped and 

in Park (P).

 

Rotate 

the 4-way adjustment 

switch located on 

the driver’s door, to 

the center position. 

Press the switch 

down to fold in the 

mirrors. Press again 

to fold them back to 

the original position. 

Fold the side mirrors 

in carefully when 

driving through a 

narrow space, like an 

automatic car wash.
If you fold in a mirror 

manually, the power 

fold mirrors will need 

to be reset. To reset, 

move the 4-way 

adjustment switch to 

the center position. 

Press the switch 

down to fold the 

mirrors in, and wait 

for approximately 8 

seconds. You should 

hear a click indicating 

the mirrors have  

been reset.  
If you do not hear a 

click, press the switch 

to fold the mirrors 

back out, and repeat 

the reset procedure.

Your vehicle may be 

equipped with a USB 

port inside the center 

console. This feature 

allows you to plug in 

media playing devices, 

memory sticks, and 

also to charge devices 

if they support this 

feature. For more

refer to Accessing and 

Using your USB port in

®® supplement 

or the navigation 

system supplement.

The keyless entry keypad 

allows you to lock or unlock all 

doors and the liftgate without 

using a key. Simply enter your 

five digit program code and the 

press 3•4 within five seconds 

to unlock all doors and the 

liftgate. Press 5•6 to open the 

liftglass. To lock all doors and 

the liftgate, press 7•8 and 9•0 

at the same time. note: You do 

not have to enter your five digit 

code first.

Your vehicle may 

be equipped with a reverse 

sensing system which may 

warn you if there is an object 

behind the vehicle that may 

be too low for you to see. The 

system will sound a warning 

tone that increases in frequency 

as the object gets closer and 

will sound continuously when 

the object is less than 10 

inches away. The system is not 

effective when the vehicle is 

traveling above 3 mph (5 km/h) 

and may not detect angular  

or moving objects. note: 

Reverse sensing is only an aid 

for detecting certain types of 

objects and does not replace 

the need to watch where the 

vehicle is moving. Refer to 

your Owner’s Guide for safety 

information, more detail  

and limitations. 

Your vehicle may 

be equipped with a rear view 

camera system located on the 

liftgate which provides a visual 

display of the area behind 

the vehicle. The display will 

automatically appear on the 

navigation system screen (if 

equipped) or in the rear view 

mirror whenever the vehicle is 

in Reverse (R) and uses colors 

(green, yellow and red) to alert 

you of your proximity to objects.

note: The rear view camera 

is only an aid and does not 

replace the need to use the rear 

and side view mirrors and watch 

where the vehicle is moving.

 –  

a hands-free communications  

and entertainment system 

with special phone and media

Your vehicle comes 

equipped with two programmed 

Integrated Keyhead 

Transmitters (IKTs) which are 

both a programmed ignition 

key and a remote keyless entry 

transmitter. Handle the IKT 

carefully when starting the car 

to avoid accidentally pressing 

any of the remote entry buttons. 

note: Ensure that you keep the 

adhesive security labels in a 

safe place for future reference. 

Replacements are only 

available through an authorized 

dealer. Press 

 

once to unlock 

the driver’s door. The interior 

lamps will illuminate. Press 

 

twice to unlock all the doors. 

Press 

 

once to lock all the 

doors. The turn lamps will flash. 

Press 

 

twice to confirm all 

the doors and trunk are closed. 

The doors will lock again, the 

horn will chirp and the turn 

lamps will flash once if all the 

doors and trunk are closed. 

Press 

 

to activate the panic 

alarm. The horn will sound and 

the turn lamps will flash. Press 

 

again or turn the ignition 

on to deactivate the panic 

alarm. Press 

 

twice within 

three seconds to open the 

power liftgate (if equipped) or 

to unlatch the manual liftgate 

window (if not equipped with 

a power liftgate). car finder:

seconds. The horn will chirp and 

the turn lamps will flash. It is 

recommended to use method to 

locate your vehicle, rather than 

using the panic alarm.

Your vehicle is equipped with 

an auxiliary input jack which 

allows you to play audio from a 

portable music player through 

the vehicle speakers. To use, 

plug your portable player into 

the input jack located inside 

the center console. Turn the 

radio on and adjust the volume 

to a comfortable level. Turn 

on your portable music player 

and adjust to approximately

 volume. Press AUx on your 

audio system repeatedly until  

LInE In appears in the display.   

Adjust the volume as needed.
