The VirusScan TC program uses its On-Access Scanner to provide continuous,
real-time virus detection and response. The On-Access Scanner checks for
infections each time you open or copy a file from, save a file to, or otherwise
use any file stored on the hard drive. The scanner starts when the computer
starts up, and stays in memory until the computer shuts down. By default, the
scanner:

•

Scans files when they are written to disk.

•

Scans files when they are read from disk.

•

Scans the boot sector of floppy disks when they are inserted, and when
the computer is shut down.

•

Scans file types that are susceptible to virus infection.

•

Scans archive files with file name extensions: ARC, ARJ, CAB, LZH,
RAR, TAR, ZIP, and their contents, if you are running Windows NT or
Windows 2000.

•

Scans compressed executable files that the current scanning engine and
virus definition (.DAT) files classify as susceptible to infection.

•

Cleans infected files immediately upon access or when saved.

•

Records its activities in a log file.

•

Excludes the Windows Recycle Bin from scanning activities.

If you have installed the VirusScan TC program, the ePolicy Orchestrator
software will enforce the default scanning policies without any further
interaction with the administrator. However, if you want to modify a policy
setting you can use the VirusScan TC On-Access Scan Options property pages
to do so.

¥ NOTE: The phrase setting policy for on-access scanning is synonymous

with configuring on-access scanning options.
