BrightStor ARCserve Backup supports 
multiple options that enhance the 
performance of backup and restore 
operations based on business 
requirements. 

 

Disk staging shrinks backup time by 
allowing backup data to be staged to fast 
disk drives before it is automatically 
moved to tape. Restore requests are 
redirected to disks automatically, reducing 
recovery time. The operation is policy 
driven, reducing operational cost and 
management overhead. The functionality 
is built into the base product but Disk 
Staging Option allows fullest use of the 
disk staging capabilities like backup of up 
to 32 streams to disk devices.  

BrightStor Disaster Recovery Option 
provides fast and easy method of 
recovering data in the event of a complete 
server failure without the need for 
reinstalling the operating system. CD-
based disaster recovery is supported in 
Windows NT/2000/XP/2003. 

Library Option.  

Supports and provides advanced device 
and media management for multiple drive 
libraries. With this option, BrightStor 
ARCserve Backup can send 
simultaneous data streams to each drive 
to optimize throughput on any multiple-
drive tape library. 

BrightStor  ARCserve  Backup 
Optical Library Option.  

Delivers flexible, automatic optical library 
support and provides advanced device 
and media management for multiple-drive 
libraries.  

Option.  

Fully leverages Fibre Channel technology 
to offload backup and restore tasks from 
networks. By allowing multiple servers to 
share the tape libraries the ROI for these 
devices is greatly improved.

Leverages the Extended Copy/Third-
Party Copy command supported in many 
SAN devices to significantly reduce 
resource usage in the production server 
as well as backup time and resource 
usage in performance. The backup load is 
taken off servers, freeing CPU and I/O 
time for mission-critical tasks. All data is 
transferred directly from disk by the data 
mover to the tape device connected on 
the SAN. 

NAS Option.  

Allows administrators to manage backup 
and restore operations on NAS devices 
using the Network Data Management 
Protocol (NDMP).  

Improves the performance and reduces 
the backup window of a server by backing 
up a block-level image of the data rather 
than processing file by file to eliminate 
any file system bottleneck. This solution 
retains the flexibility to allow file level 
restores. 

RAID Option.  

Enhances backup and restore 
performance by striping data across 

multiple drives in a RAID configuration 
much like that of RAID configurations on 
disk. RAID level 0, 1 and 5 are supported 
configurations. Choose the level based on 
your need for performance and/or 
availability. 

Laptops and Desktops. Designed to 
minimize the business risks associated 
with loss of laptop and desktop data due 
to theft, hardware failure, viruses, natural 
disasters and human errors. 

Using a wide range of agents, BrightStor 
ARCserve Backup protects all major 
databases and messaging systems even 
as the applications continue to perform 
their business critical tasks.  

Protects all Sharepoint databases like 
portal, search index and single sign-on 
databases. Offers automated deployment 
of agents to all servers in a Sharepoint 
farm as well as advanced algorithms for 
ensuring consistent backup and restore of 
SharePoint data like SharePoint topology 
verification before backup and automated 
verification of restored data.
