STORNEXT SOLUTIONS FOR BIG DATA
From video surveillance to seismic exploration to DNA research, companies are 
experiencing tremendous growth in digital assets called Big Data. This digital content 
is very high in volume, is often difficult or impossible to recreate, and is of utmost 
value to the business or institution. Quantum’s StorNext
®
 appliances are purpose-built 
for Big Data and provide customers with scalable, high-performance solutions that are 
cost-effective and easy to manage. The StorNext tiered storage solutions include the 
StorNext Q-Series, a family of primary disk systems that are optimized to deliver high 
performance in demanding Big Data environments.
PRIMARY STORAGE TIER FOR SHARED, HIGH-PERFORMANCE WORKFLOWS
Big Data imposes unique performance and workflow requirements on the storage 
infrastructure, whether for a team of genetic researchers investigating possible cures 
for cancer, or a creative department doing post-production video editing on a feature 
film. StorNext Q-Series Storage is designed to meet these unique requirements and 
allow customers to store and manipulate data at very high rates. The Q-Series family 
includes three models—the QD6000, QS1200, and QM1200—all purpose built and 
configured for optimal performance with StorNext, and designed to deliver a blend of 
performance, scalability, and density.
The StorNext QD6000 provides a balance of high-throughput performance and 
outstanding storage density, where footprint and performance are both a priority. The 
QD6000 can be purchased with as little as 60TB of raw capacity and can scale from 
180TB in just 4U of rack space to 1.08PB in 24U. With Quantum’s StorNext File System 
technology, the QD6000 can deliver up to 3.6 GB/sec of aggregate throughput.  
The StorNext QS1200 is designed for customers with smaller primary disk needs or 
use cases that require the high-performance characteristics of 15K RPM drives. The 
QS1200 starts at 7.2TB and can scale to 57.6TB in a single array. Finally, for customers 
who want to deploy StorNext software on their own metadata controller hardware, 
the QM1200 can deliver high-performance metadata storage.
COST-EFFECTIVE TIERED STORAGE 
StorNext Q-Series Storage can be combined with StorNext’s unique policy-based 
tiering capabilities to allow customers to have virtually unlimited space for Big Data. 
For example, StorNext Q-Series Storage can be integrated with StorNext AEL Archive 
to create a cost-effective near-line solution with built-in data protection and data 
integrity checking. With StorNext solutions for Big Data, you get the performance and 
scalability you need while significantly lowering your total cost of ownership relative 
to traditional storage approaches.
