VDSL Ethernet LAN Extenders enable LAN and campus network managers and serv-
ice providers to use an existing phone-grade wiring plant to extend 10 Mbps and 100
Mbps Ethernet twisted pair interfaces by using Ethernet over VDSL; the 100m dis-
tance limitation of twisted pair data cabling is no longer a challenge.
ice providers to use an existing phone-grade wiring plant to extend 10 Mbps and 100
Mbps Ethernet twisted pair interfaces by using Ethernet over VDSL; the 100m dis-
tance limitation of twisted pair data cabling is no longer a challenge.
Designed with VDSL (Very high-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line) technology, the
iMcV-VDSL-LANextender allows the transmission of data over sub-standard CAT3
and other telephone cabling to achieve substantially longer distances (up to 2 km).

iMcV-VDSL-LANextender modules include:
• One VDSL port with an RJ-11 connector
• One 10/100 twisted pair Ethernet port with a RJ-45 connector
• One 10/100 twisted pair Ethernet port with a RJ-45 connector

• Auto MDI-II/MDI-X, Auto-Negotiation and Selective Advertising with
Flow Control on the 10/100 port.
As a media and protocol converter, iMcV-VDSL-LANextender includes the ability to
transfer data both symmetrically, and asymmetrically, allowing distances of up to 2
Km (see chart on reverse side). Bandwidth can also be configured to ensure users are
limited to a specified amount rather than having access to the maximum achievable
bandwidth.

Always deploy iMcV-VDSL-LANextender modular media converters in pairs, installing
one module at the central office (CO) and another module at the customer premis-
es (CPE).
one module at the central office (CO) and another module at the customer premis-
es (CPE).
Configure/Manage the CPE three ways:
• Directly via unit’s own SNMP (iView²)*;
requires installation in managed chassis
• Via hardware DIP switches
• Remotely with the CO unit’s SNMP (iView²); physical access to CPE not required.

Application Example
Use iMcV-VDSL-LANextender modules inside a LAN to extend network segments and
pass data over the existing phones lines. Using media converters with VDSL technology
is often beneficial when connecting two buildings across the street from one another or
even connecting two areas in a large building.
