HDMI connections
HDMI (High-Definition Multi-Media Interface) is a digital connection that
can carry both audio and video in one cable. Direct digital transfer of
video and support for various types of High Definition video content
make this the best connection type for picture quality.
DVI output can be supported simply by using DVI to HDMI adaptors as
these two connection types are compatible. When using DVI, only video
will be passed to the TV/monitor. A Co-axial (SPDIF) or Optical (TOSlink)
digital audio connection must be made from the 540D V2 to the
AV receiver for it to be able to receive audio and decode surround-sound,
etc.
As HDMI can carry both digital audio and video, HDMI can be used to
connect to AV receivers that support this function. If your AV receiver is
able to receive audio over HDMI, only one cable is required*.
*If your AV receiver can switch HDMI but not receive audio in this way,
an additional SPDIF or TOSlink cable will be required.
