Overview
The need for data storage is ever expanding,
fueled by the dramatic growth of the Internet,
e-commerce, and ASPs. New terabytes of data
storage are being installed at break-neck speeds.
In addition to the rapid growth in storage,
fundamental changes in the deployment of
storage are occurring. The majority of storage
has migrated to be external to the host system
in enterprise class systems, first on proprietary
systems, and later on Unix class servers.
External storage is becoming more and more a
necessity for enterprise class PC servers as well.

Configuration Flexibility
The RAIDstation7 storage arrays are the ideal
storage solutions for applications requiring
high-speed throughput and device configura-
tion flexibility, from single-office to enterprise
organizations. RAIDstation7 storage arrays
provide sound solutions for the external 
storage needs of PC server enterprise comput-
ing environments for both SCSI and Fibre
Channel deployments. The SCSI storage array
provides throughput of up to 160 MByte/sec
and external cable lengths to 12 meters via 
low voltage differential (LVD) technology.
The Fibre Channel model provides up to 
200 MByte/sec (dual loop configurations)
throughput and the connection of up to 126
devices. These storage arrays provide a robust
solution for just a bunch of disk (JBOD)
requirements, as well as being exceptionally
well suited for protected data environments
requiring RAID and high-availability features.

Ultra160 SCSI Model 
The SCSI RAIDstation7 model is an advanced
Ultra160 SCSI storage system that delivers 
performance and reliability while preserving
backward compatibility with previous SCSI
devices. Cyclical redundancy checking (CRC)
improves integrity between the transferring
and receiving devices. Domain validation 
optimizes the transfer rate, while dual edge
clocking transfers data on both edges of the
signal, increasing throughput to 160 MByte/sec.
This model also provides the latest SCSI
Accessed Fault Tolerant Enclosures (SAFTE)
for sophisticated monitoring capabilities.

Fibre Channel 
Model
The Fibre Channel
RAIDstation7 
solution provides a
proven Fibre Channel 
storage solution,
delivering significant
reliability and a 
data transfer rate of
200 MByte/sec (dual
loop configurations).
Connectivity is
improved by allowing
copper connections to the storage array. Loop
termination is supplied automatically, which
enables dynamic loop expansion. The Fibre
Channel RAIDstation7 provides unprecedented
intelligence, reporting on the power supplies,
fans, disk drives, and temperature of the array
via SES (SCSI Enclosure Services) help to
reduce the downtime of the system.

High-Availability Design
The RAIDstation7 storage array delivers the
best possible environment for high capacity,
high performance SCSI and Fibre Channel
disk drives by providing outstanding,
redundant power supplies and exceptional
cooling capabilities. Power and cooling have
been designed to generously accommodate 
standard 3.5-inch storage devices. Based on 
an industry standard 19-inch rackmountable
shelf, with support for the highest capacity
drives available, this storage array can easily 
be expanded to support terabytes of storage.
For the ultimate in data integrity and system
uptime, this system integrates a comprehen-
sive suite of fault tolerant features, including
redundant hot-swappable power supply units,
drives, and advanced cooling modules
(ACMs) with dynamic cooling functionality.
These features help get the longest life and
best performance from disk drives.
