Many high end home theater systems have most of their

components, including the speaker, hidden away in cabinets. While

this conceals the hardware it can be detrimental to performance

unless the effects of the equipment cabinet are taken into account.

The CHS212 is a custom installation subwoofer counterpart to PSB’s

highly acclaimed SubSonic 10. The same high output/high travel 12”

woofers are used with the same 500 watt ampliﬁ er and extensive

contouring and system-matching controls to produce virtually

unrestricted bass extension with audiophile-class speed and control,

and bone-jarring power.

The cabinet is much simpler than that of the SubSonic 10 with no

extra cosmetic details that would be wasted when built into another

cabinet. A tough texture paint cabinet is used with dimensions

chosen to ﬁ t within most equipment cabinets. One 12” unit is front

ﬁ ring while the second unit is mounted on the bottom of the cabinet

and is down ﬁ ring. This assures that both the drivers and the two

port tubes are all tightly clustered and that all bass energy will have

no problem exiting the equipment cabinet.

The high output digital power ampliﬁ er is highly efﬁ cient. Dynamic

restoration circuitry, exclusive to PSB, allows very high peak power

to pass while providing sonic protection to sustained tones. The

end result is stupendous output, especially on transients, with

safe operation and freedom from audible distortion. The PSB
