10 Issues Resulting from Causes Not Related to
MeetingPlace Software

The following MeetingPlace Web limitations are not categorized as defects. Some of the limitations are
the results of limitations or defects in third-party software, while some are the results of not being part of
the product design. In the later case, these issues are categorized internally as Enhancement Change
Requests.
Internet Explorer using Sun Java Runtime Environment may have problems with web
conferencing
Internet Explorer is bundled with Microsoft Java Virtual Machine. However, if the user installs a
Netscape Navigator browser or downloads and installs Sun’s Java Runtime Environment (JRE), then it is
possible that JRE will reconfigure IE to use Sun’s JRE instead of Microsoft’s JVM. This may cause
Internet Explorer to stop working on certain PCs
Netscape “Recommended” installation option may not include the necessary Java Plug-
in for proper web conferencing
Depending on what version of Netscape Navigator you are installing, it may not install any Java Plug-ins
if you choose the “Recommended” installation option. Without the Java Plug-ins, you will not be able to
participate in web conference. When you first visit MeetingPlace Web, Netscape will detect that you do
not have the Java Plug-in and prompt you to download. You will also be prompted to download Java
Plug-ins if you visit any Internet website that requires Java Plug-ins. However, if you click Cancel and do
not download Java, the next time you visit a website that requires Java Plug-ins, you WILL NOT be
prompted again. This can cause serious MeetingPlace Web usage problems because users may not know
that their browsers are missing the necessary Java Plug-ins, and they may not know where or how to
download and install the Java Plug-ins.
This product cannot be installed remotely using Microsoft Terminal Server connection
The MeetingPlace Web installation program cannot be invoked through Microsoft Terminal Server
connections. This is a limitation of Terminal Services, and not a defect in the MeetingPlace Web
Gateway.
MeetingPlace initializing bar doesn’t complete if hard disk is full
If your hard disk is full, the “Please wait while MeetingPlace initializes” status bar will not finish loading,
and you will not receive any messages stating that your disk is full. Your web browser will continue to try
to load the applets.
Meeting Room loading/initializing time using VPN
On an internal network, loading the Meeting Room applet takes about 15 to 30 seconds, depending on the
load placed on the Windows server. A task bar will indicate the progress of the download. Please wait
while the download completes. If you are connected through a VPN, it may take longer to load the
Meeting Room.

DMZ installation with One NIC not effective at limiting access
MeetingPlace Web allows you to install and configure one NT server and use it to serve two different
web sites – one full-featured, full access MeetingPlace Web site for your internal users, and one Attend-
only access MeetingPlace Web site for external users. However, because both sites are on the same NT
server and being handled by the same IIS, you need to properly configure IIS to prevent external users
